🏦Banks & connections(5)
How does SteadyFi connect to my bank?+
Through Plaid, the same secure connection used by Venmo, Robinhood, and most major fintech apps. You sign in directly on your bank's site (in a Plaid-hosted iframe) — SteadyFi never sees your username or password.
Which banks are supported?+
Plaid supports 12,000+ US banks and credit unions including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi, Capital One, Discover, USAA, Navy Federal, plus most regional banks and credit unions.
Why does my account show $0 / 0 transactions?+
Plaid takes 1–24 hours to fully sync after first connecting. If it's still empty after 24h, click the ↻ refresh button on your dashboard — that forces a fresh pull. Some institutions also rate-limit historical data to 30 / 90 / 180 days.
What if my bank disconnects?+
You'll see a "Reconnect" prompt. Banks require periodic re-auth (some monthly, some yearly) — click reconnect, sign in again, done. Your historical data stays intact.
Can I add accounts manually?+
Yes. For loans, mortgages, and utilities use the Bill Priority page → "Add Debt / Bill". For credit cards Plaid doesn't see, upload the statement on the Accounts page.
🔒Privacy & security(5)
Does SteadyFi see my login credentials?+
No. Plaid handles bank authentication directly with your institution. SteadyFi receives an opaque access token, never your username or password.
Where is my data stored?+
In US-based managed PostgreSQL (Supabase), encrypted at rest and in transit. Sign-in is handled by Clerk. See our Privacy Policy for full detail.
Can I delete my account and all data?+
Yes — sign in, go to Security & MFA, click "Start deletion", type your email to confirm. Removes every Plaid connection, transaction, account, manual entry, budget, debt, and your sign-in record. Irreversible — even support can't restore it.
Do you sell my data?+
No. We don't sell, rent, or share your financial data with third parties. We make money from subscriptions, not data brokerage.
How do you protect my data?+
HTTPS for all traffic, encrypted at rest, row-level security on every table (your data only, not anyone else's), Clerk for auth, MFA available. We don't store credit card numbers or bank credentials.
💳Features(5)
How does the Health Score work?+
Five factors weighted to 100: cash buffer (25 pts), spending vs income (25), bill payments (20), debt load (15), account diversity (15). Click "See breakdown" on Customer 360 to see your score per factor with the exact reason.
What is "Bridge the gap"?+
When your income won't cover this month's outflows, the Customer 360 verdict shows a panel ranking ways to close the gap — cheapest first (savings → 0% intro card → personal loan), with actual dollar costs of borrowing so you can compare honestly.
How does Bill Priority rank bills?+
By consequence severity: mortgage → credit cards → utilities → loans → other. Each row shows balance, APR, minimum, and payoff progress. Edit balances/APRs inline if Plaid's data is off.
How accurate is the 12-month forecast?+
It uses 6 months of transaction history to detect cadence (monthly / biweekly / annual) and projects forward. Most accurate for stable recurring items (rent, payroll, utilities); less reliable for variable spending or one-time bills.
Can I track manual debts (cash mortgage, etc.)?+
Yes. Bill Priority → "Add Debt" lets you enter balance, APR, and monthly payment for any loan or card Plaid can't see. Upload a statement and we'll AI-extract the fields automatically.
🤖AI Advisor(4)
What does the AI Advisor see?+
Your account balances, recent transactions, budgets, and detected bills — all data already in your dashboard. It's your private assistant, scoped to your data only.
Are AI recommendations financial advice?+
No. Suggestions are educational and based on patterns in your spending. We're not a registered investment advisor. For decisions on investments, taxes, or major loans, consult a licensed professional.
Which model do you use?+
Anthropic's Claude (Sonnet 4 family). We use them because their constitutional-AI approach gives more careful, qualified answers than alternatives — fewer hallucinations, more "I don't know" when appropriate.
Can I turn off AI features?+
Yes. The AI Advisor page is opt-in (you have to navigate there). Other AI features (cash flow tips, card recommendations) appear inline — they're suggestions, not actions, and ignoring them costs nothing.
💰Pricing(3)
Is SteadyFi free?+
See the Pricing page for current plans. Core features (Customer 360, Bill Priority, Subscription Tracker) are available on every plan.
Do I need to enter a credit card to sign up?+
Not for the free tier or trial. We don't charge until you explicitly subscribe.
How do I cancel?+
From Security & MFA → manage subscription, or contact support. We'll prorate your last billing cycle.
🛠Troubleshooting(5)
My transactions look wrong / are missing+
(1) Click the ↻ refresh button on Customer 360 — forces a Plaid sync. (2) Plaid sometimes lags 1–2 days behind your bank; check tomorrow. (3) Some institutions only return 30 days of history — older transactions may not exist on Plaid's side at all.
A bill is in the wrong group on Bill Priority+
Two ways to fix: (a) tag the underlying transaction with the right user_category on the Transactions page — our classifier respects user tags over Plaid metadata, or (b) edit the row directly with the ✏ button.
How do I reconnect a bank?+
Accounts page → click the bank → "Reconnect". Re-authenticates with Plaid, your data stays intact.
Bank connection fails in Safari (generic "Connection Failed" / "Request Has Failed")+
Try Chrome. Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention blocks third-party cookies during the bank-OAuth → Plaid → SteadyFi handshake, which breaks the connection for several institutions — Citi and Capital One especially. This isn't a SteadyFi-specific bug; every Plaid-using app (Copilot, Monarch, Rocket Money, etc.) hits the same issue with the same banks. Once the bank is connected via Chrome, every browser works fine for normal app use — the Safari quirk only affects the initial connect step. If you don't have Chrome and Safari keeps failing: open the bank's website directly first, complete a fresh login (resolve any MFA / security prompts), then try connecting again — sometimes that clears stuck session state.
How do I update my email or password?+
Security & MFA page → manage account profile. Email changes require verifying the new address.
